Joshua 1-11; Acts 10:34-48; Psalm 98; 1 John 5:1-8; John 15:9-17 "Living Together in Christ"

The first part of this message is missing. In the introduction I referred to President Obama's recent announcement of his change of mind regarding same sex marriages and his reason for his change being the thoughts and feelings of his wife and children. The message picks up at Judges 17:6 where it says, "...everyone did what was right in his own eyes." In contrast Jesus lived by "every word that comes from the mouth of God." (Matthew 4:4) The only way for all people of every language tongue tribe and nation to live together is for each person to surrender in faith to Jesus Christ. Only Jesus can recreate "one new man" (Ephesians 2:14-16). We are broken people, broken by sin and death, only Jesus Christ can raise us up to a life of unity.

Deuteronomy 24-34; Psalm 91; Acts 8:26-40; Psalm 150; 1 John 4:1-11; John 15:1-8 "Living In Christ's Victory"

Moses and Joshua were two leaders of Israel that paint a picture for the message of the Bible. Moses pictures the law of God--His Holy Righteous Justice. Joshua, the Hebrew form of the name Jesus pictures the coming of Jesus who leads the church into the promised land of the church here on earth living in the victory of Jesus until He comes again and the whole church becomes the church triumphant reigning with Christ for all eternity. While the law is good and right it cannot save us only Jesus can and He has so that we can now live in His victory.

Deuteronomy 11-23; Acts 4:1-12; Psalm 23; 1 John 3:16-24; John 10:11-18 "God Loves You!"

Throughout the Bible God commands what He is worthy to receive. We are to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. This command is impossible for us to fulfill. So are we lost eternally? No, the good news is that Jesus Christ loved Abba Father perfectly with all His heart, soul, mind, and strength and when by the power of the Holy Spirit we are born again and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ then in Him we too love the Lord our God perfectly. Jesus fulfills all things perfectly and we fulfill all things as we abide in Him.

Numbers 33-Deuteronomy 10; Acts 3:11-21; Psalm 4; 1 John 3:1-7; Luke 24:36-49 "Facing Life's Giants"

God's promise to Israel in the Old Testament and to His church today is "I am with you". His presence was to be received by faith and the people of Israel were not to cower before the giants in the promised land, but they were to trust Him and His presence for the victory. You and I face giants. Economic giants; health giants; employment giants; depression giants; these are just a few of the giants we face in life. God's presence is His power for us. We stand strong in the resurrection of Christ and face our giants in the presence of God with us. Have a great week in the presence of God who is with us always.

Genesis 26-38; 2 Kings 5:1-14; Psalm 30; 1 Corinthians 10:31-11:1; Mark 1:40-45 "Self-Deception and the Box"

Being sinners by nature, people are deceived by other people, deceive other people and even deceive themselves. The book "Leadership and Self-Deception" by the Arbinger Institute is helpful in understanding how we deceive ourselves. The Gospel of God's restoration in Jesus Christ takes us beyond overcoming self-deception into supernatural living in the power of the Holy Spirit.

Genesis 12-25; Isaiah 40:21-31; Psalm 147:1-11; 1 Corinthians 9:16-27; Mark 1:29-39 "Wait On The Lord"

Abraham had to learn to wait on the Lord as God fulfilled His covenant promises. When he was not waiting on the Lord he tried his own ways and that didn't work out very well. But God is faithful even when we are not. As we learn to wait on the Lord we live and serve in the power of His strength and we are renewed. When we live in our own power we are drained.

Deuteronomy 18:15-20; Psalm 111; 1 Corinthians 8:1-13; Mark 1:21-28; Job 31-42 "God Keeps His Word"

The human heart is evil and in need of God's saving and transforming grace. We are even willing to call God a liar rather than face our own brokenness. Jesus came as the perfect prophet promised in Deuteronomy. He is the way out of the prison of the evil heart and the way into fearless intimacy with God.

Job 17-30; Jonah 3:1-5, 10; Psalm 62; 1 Corinthians 7:29-31; Mark 1:14-20 "God Is For Us and With Us in Adversity"

When we go through adversity we face the temptation of developing a false view of God that places Him as being against us like an adversary. But God tells us over and over again that He is never against us in Christ He is always for us and with us especially in adversity.
