Deuteronomy 18:15-20; Psalm 111; 1 Corinthians 8:1-13; Mark 1:21-28; Job 31-42 "God Keeps His Word"

The human heart is evil and in need of God's saving and transforming grace. We are even willing to call God a liar rather than face our own brokenness. Jesus came as the perfect prophet promised in Deuteronomy. He is the way out of the prison of the evil heart and the way into fearless intimacy with God.

Job 17-30; Jonah 3:1-5, 10; Psalm 62; 1 Corinthians 7:29-31; Mark 1:14-20 "God Is For Us and With Us in Adversity"

When we go through adversity we face the temptation of developing a false view of God that places Him as being against us like an adversary. But God tells us over and over again that He is never against us in Christ He is always for us and with us especially in adversity.

1 Samuel 3:1-10; Psalm 139:1-10; 1 Corinthians 6:12-20; John 1:43-51; Weekly Reading Job 2-16 "Listen To The Voice of God"

Peter made a great testimony about Jesus when he said to Jesus, "Lord to whom shall we go you have the words of eternal life". Only God has words of life, other voices, other words bring death. God and His Word brings life. We need to learn to hear and follow the voice of God to have abundant life in Jesus.

2 Samuel 7:1-11,18; Psalm 89:1-5; Romans 16:25-27; Luke 1:26-38 "Luke 1:26-38 We Have Everything in Jesus"

Mary was an unknown teenage girl engaged to Joseph, dreaming the dreams that girls of her time dreamed. Then her life was turned upside down by the announcement of the angel that she would become pregnant by the Holy Spirit of God and give birth to the Son of God who was now coming as man to dwell among us. She had to RECEVE this revelation. REPENT of her desires to do things her way so that she would follow God's way. RELY on the promises of God as she would have to deal with being branded as an adulterous woman, made to travel to Bethlehem while 9 months pregnant, and for protection of her son, flee with Joseph to Egypt. Her life was turned upside down. But she had everything she needed in her son, Jesus. This allowed her to REPACK, removing her dreams and plans and replacing them with God's plan. We have Mary's example to help us to REACH others with the saving message of having everything only in Jesus.

Isaiah 61:1-4, 8-11; Psalm 126; 1 Thessalonians 5:16-24; John 1:6-8, 19-28 "Light In The Tunnel"

Picture life as a tunnel that you are traveling through. The light at the end of the tunnel is the glorious return of Jesus at the end of the age. In the tunnel there is trouble (John 14:6) but we are to have no fear because Jesus has overcome the tunnel of this world and we are in Him and He is in us. So, not only is He the light at the end of the tunnel, He is the light in the tunnel. Have a blessed week in the Lord.

Isaiah 40:1-11; Psalm 85; 2 Peter 3:8-14; Mark 1:1-8 "Comfort From God"

While we live in this world it is like living in a tunnel of trouble, but God comforts us while in the tunnel. There is light at the end of the tunnel in the certain promise of the return of Jesus in glory and power. God comforts us as we receive His self-revelation as eternal God. When we receive this truth about God we must repent of the unbelief that causes us to live with a shortsighted view of life and our troubles. True repentance leads to us relying on the promises of God and the return of Christ making our troubles light and momentary in comparison to the glory to be revealed at Christ's return. Empowered by the promises of Christ's return we repack our lives with the holiness of Christ reaching in and out so that we are made more certain through the sharing of Christ and helping others carry their burdens.

Psalm 80; Isaiah 64:1-9; 1 Corinthians 1:3-9; Mark 11:1-10 "God Reveals Himself"

It is unbelief and despising the Word of God to expect God to prove Himself. He reveals Himself clearly in the Holy Gospel, Holy Baptism, and Holy Communion all of which flow from the Word made flesh to dwell among us, Jesus Christ the divine Son. We are to get rid of everything that hinders us from following Jesus. We do this by dying to self through RECEIVING what God reveals; REPENTING of all distractions and sins which hinder us; RELYING on the promises of God in Christ Jesus; REPACKING our lives removing fear and worry, pride and arrogance, and packing in grace abundant in Christ; and REACHING IN and OUT to help others come to the freedom of Jesus. Blessings in Christ!
